UPF Ratings

Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) indicates how much of the sun's UV radiation is absorbed. A fabric with a rating of 50 will allow only 1/50th of the sun's UV rays to pass through. This means the fabric will reduce your skin's UV radiation exposure significantly because only 2 percent of the UV rays will get through.

Each fabric color undergoes a series of 5 tests to determine its average UPF value. The UV protection amounts (e.g., 90-95%) that appear before the UPF values are given in order to inform the customer of the general range of protection that the parasol will provide. While great effort is made to make the UV protective coating as uniform as possible, a parasol may have slightly less (or more) protection than another parasol of the same style and color.

UV Testing

Carasol's parasols come with a UV protective coating that blocks 85-99% of UV rays, depending on the fabric and color of the parasol. In general, the darker the fabric, the higher the UV protection.

Our manufacturers have done independent testing to determine the UV protection amounts. Additionally, UPF testing with the International UV Testing Laboratory in Auburn, Alabama has been performed to determine UPF ratings.
